My Print out of the handbook has seen better days...

* I have just finished the handbook for module two. I have read through it once, making small notes, and then i have worked my way through it in more detail, making notes throughout and following tasks presented in the book. Weekly i have been ´writing up´ my findings and uploading these onto my blog. I did this as i believed it would make the final stage of the module easier. Having all my findings in front of me, in an organized manner, has made it easier to see similar themes and easier to relate my work to the requirements off the module. With this information i will now make a mood board with my findings to help me decide on my final inquiry and subsequently help to write my inquiry plan. I will do this by printing my blogs out and creating an a3 sheet with cut outs from the blog, of similar themes and interesting finds. I believe i will be able analyze the information i have easier and clearer.*

Plan of action for Module Three to gather information

Self observe in the rehearsal environment how the performers conduct themselves This is good because i will already be in the rehearsal space so no problem with finding the permission to enter the rehearsal space. Eliminates the problem of time consuming too.  Interview See other blog for candidates for the interview  Questions: reflect on findings and see what i want to ask 6 questions Get the performer to self- evaluate themselves using the same criteria as i used for the self observation   Two Perspectives, Compare Focus Groups Comfortable setting e.g meal, relax atmosphere Share experiences on the job and auditions Focus mainly on dancers/ensemble Questionnair e Simple questions tick box Answers To gain a percentage, create my own statistic, three questions surronding Employment Nerves/Anxiety Day to Day Life

Nearly finished the handbook...

Taken from the handbook, Page 38,  An Insider- researcher needs to be particularly aware of the research environment Being an Insider impacts on the design of the inquiry and on the tools chosen to carry out the inquiry. You have knowledge about the work place...greater access to people at your workplace.  The first section of the quote stood out to me as, i noticed by emerging myself into the research with the readings and blogging how important this is in contributing to being the insider researcher to your inquiry. After reading this quote, i also saw how good it will be that i a m on tour when completing module three because i will have a greater access to other performers.  Taken from the handbook, page 39 Purposive - choosing people who can have experience, ideas and information about your inquiry focus area ... Cast members from a range of ages - Different outlook to experience/knowledge Conversations with friends who are performers Asking about s...

Food for thought x3

Taken from my Journal 10th November 2017 Last night I went for dinner with some friends in the industry and we got talking about jobs (as all performers seem to do). My friend had just been offered a choreographic job in Las Vegas. It was a 6 week stint, with a lot of consideration as he has a family. He then went to say, he had spoke about money and other requirements in his contract and was meant to start in two weeks. Only yesterday he received a call to say because of visa issues they were putting the rehearsal period back a few more weeks. I found it so interesting our initial reaction was well he has to do it no matter what,  it's Las Vegas, but then actually when I thought about it, in any other line of work if you had been 'messed around' like this already before you started you would just say no thank you. why do some of us feel the need to be the yes man of fear on missing out an opportunity or it having a negative effect on future employment? Also with the...

Exploring thoughts

Further Notes Truth for me is a great starting point in order to form a valid opinion on something Truth is a great starting block for knowledge Certainty in anything provides confidence. Certainty in knowing a dance routine/results in a greater confidence/a greater focus on improving weak points/more time to focus on performing the dance/see the inner layer of a dance which is need to get the most out of what is required for the routine My beliefs in how i live my day to day life have been affected by my professional practice. Helped enforce a belief that in order to achieve my full potential, i need to follow this saying. Ìn order to have a successful life, you have to successful individual days´. This has been something i did not have in my practice until starting the course. So far this is my biggest self finding. Participant Observation - is a term describing an activity whereby the researcher participates in the community of practice  A performer does this dai...

Positivist? Non - Positivist?

Positivist - Relies on a fixed certainty start process of research with the assumption there is something out there to be found. Things remain in the world and one discovers them without having any influence on them  Non-Positivist - Things are constructed from a number of elements. ´Things emerge`...`Things do not exist independently´.  Fundamental Beliefs  Positivist   Auditions get you jobs Non - Positivist Networking/bettering yourself... helps you get a job   Research- A big chunk is personal experience/knowledge..You have to be a part of it e.g Days of fitness/dance - Does it make for a more confident dancer Research Beliefs Positivist  What Auditions intend? Outcome of an audition Factual details regarding auditions- Ethics/time/Destination Professional organization - Conduct in the audition Attire/Clothing/Sheet music/Instrument Non - Positivist   How to better the practice of being a more confident/successful p...

Working my way through the Handbook : Ethical Considerations

Ethical Considerations - Different Perspectives people have about something Ethical Products- things you will be doing to address some of the things you have considered  True:  You hurt yourself at work, you are injured Preparation for auditions Basic health and safety do´s and don´ts - Audition/On stage/Theatre Powerful: To encourage others, how you wish to be treated No matter from where you trained/come from, see all on one equal playing field Warm up/cool down your body before audition/show Difficult : Everyone gets an opportunity to be seen Race Weight Éthics throws a spotlight on the balance of power between the researcher and the researched´ - Handbook - Module Two - pg 33 This has not changed my philosophical thinking towards the ethics of my inquiry. For example, with points such as preparing for auditions and warming up/cooling down the body, there is only one way of doing this in order to prevent injury. Without these things you are...

Even Facebook Stalking Can Be Work...

Even Facebook stalking can be working... After another long train journey to my next show, i found an interesting article a friend shared on facebook Auditioning Strategy by Jeffery L. Funderburk  ´The basic strategy or goal of the audition is to do our best` `The basic question or problem seems to be one of control` These quotes from the articles opening paragraph already hold a strong connection to other articles i have researched. The out come of doing your best and holding control over a situation where you hold no control over the end result. ´Nerves...loss of physical control/loss of mental control' `Ticks and problems with breathing' These are the two main problems i have when suffering with nerves in auditions. Breath control and body control are two things as a profesional singer and dancer, i would pride myself on but when nerves then fall into the equation, something you could do in your sleep, becomes less dependent and less reliable. Therefore, ou...
