Even Facebook Stalking Can Be Work...

Even Facebook stalking can be working...

After another long train journey to my next show, i found an interesting article a friend shared on facebook

Auditioning Strategy by Jeffery L. Funderburk

´The basic strategy or goal of the audition is to do our best`

`The basic question or problem seems to be one of control`

These quotes from the articles opening paragraph already hold a strong connection to other articles i have researched. The out come of doing your best and holding control over a situation where you hold no control over the end result.

´Nerves...loss of physical control/loss of mental control'
`Ticks and problems with breathing'

These are the two main problems i have when suffering with nerves in auditions. Breath control and body control are two things as a profesional singer and dancer, i would pride myself on but when nerves then fall into the equation, something you could do in your sleep, becomes less dependent and less reliable. Therefore, out of nowhere, something harder to control. - Interesting thought, research on nerves/anxiety? How to do deal with them?

Áctive approach should be taken to maintain control`

How? - Breathing exercises and Controlling breathing practice - Yoga/Meditation/Gym workouts, when tough focus on how breath can pull you through.

Taking yourself out of your ´comfort zone`in order to place yourself in a situation where it requires you to use mind over matter.

´Know the audition process...know your surrondings´

I don´t know how much this relates to my studies (musical theatre auditions) as if there is a dance call, you know a studio will have been provided for the audition, therefore a studio of some sort will be accessible in order to warm up.  Therefore apart from googling the address in order to find the place, a dance studio is a dance studio. I would say to focus more on knowing what you need to do before an audition to delve into the head space required and what your body needs to be warm. `Know yourself`. Further more, from my own audition experience, i would say 90 percent of auditions i have done something will inevitably occur that changes the process of the audition day. A change of rooms, change of structure to the day, an earlier/later time to be available for are just a few factors that happen during the audition day making it difficult to know your process of the day ahead before the audition.

`Know the music`

LISTEN/LISTEN/LISTEN
From personal experience, i have the feeling when you have not listened to the music inside out and know it, it creates unnecessary angst in your audition. For a singer, it is vital to know the piano accompaniment for confidence in the audition and in order to really connect to the music. To sing with just a piano, changes the impact of the song and how the song sounds. Recording someone playing what i will hear on the day and rehearsing with that recording, rather than a cd/backing track has helped me so much in being more successful and confident in singing rounds.

`Try to Stimulate the audition process before you arrive at the actual audition... learn to react in the situation.. learn to cope with it`
Íf you have been doing the audition simulations, the real audition takes on the air of the 100th perfomance of a show rather than the opening night with its jitters`

LOVE THIS!!

Self worth is so important in order to achieve a successful audition. E
