Reader Two:

After exploring reader two and the idea of reflection i really found the course begin to make more sense and questions and thoughts once i began to reflect came pouring in. Over a three week period of keeping a journal i really saw the benefits as i noticed similar themes throughout the days in which related to me as a person and a performer. In this post i have summed up moments from the past three weeks in which i used reflection.

Food for thought

Last night I went for dinner with some friends in the industry and we got talking about jobs (as all performers seem to do). My friend had just been offered a choreographic job in Las Vegas. It was a 6 week stint, with a lot of consideration as he has a family. He then went to say, he had spoke about money and other requirements in his contract and was meant to start in two weeks. Only yesterday he received a call to say because of visa issues they were putting the rehearsal period back a few more weeks. I found it so interesting our initial reaction was well he has to do it no matter what,  it's Las Vegas, but then actually when I thought about it, in any other line of work if you had been 'messed around' like this already before you started you would just say no thank you. why do some of us feel the need to be the yes man of fear on missing out an opportunity or it having a negative effect on future employment? Also with the sudden change in our lives what impact does this have on us mentally? Leaving your family with little certainty on the organisation of the job over the Christmas period becomes the hardest decision when you are faced with a life time opportunity any performer would die for.

Points/Questions/notes TAKEN FROM JOURNAL

Artists who really believe in being themselves and promoting self belief and happiness

To conquer the hurt and effect of rejection as a performer to survive and be a happy human being

I love learning new shows and seeing how they have been created..

The creative process involved with putting on a show, all the vital components needed. Never possible with just one person, a team effort.

I love performing, the ideas it gives me, the dreams and situations if I work I could be in.

Is it possible to have complete control over your career as a performer, when your fate on whether you get the job always lies in someone else hands

I love singing. Song writing, becoming a recording artist, exploring my voice

Being on stage today was so amazing and it's so cheesy but the after effects just show me why I travel to the craziest places..

How to live the happiest life possible? And if creating this life, do opportunities also present them self because how you come across?

  1. Interesting points about owning your own practice. It does feel as if we have to say yes to everything sometimes. The critical reflection on the situation is good. Is there any literature - articles you can look-up about this using key words you can search Journals using the online library or Google scholar. keep going - great to see your blog.
