READER ONE

To begin with I really struggled to relate this information to me and my practice. I found myself taking notes on a very factual basis, it was only after then reading reader two and gaining an understanding for reflection that It began to slowly make more sense.

Below I have discussed some uses of web 2.0 for employment in my industry and how this concept has affected how we gain employment.

Facebook groups such as the Hustle. This is a great way of anyone being able to advertise jobs and opportunitys for performers especially those who free lance or require last minute job offers. This form of web 2.0 has completely changed our ways of gaining more employment. Last minute teaching classes, cover singing jobs, recommend vocal teachers, recommended photographers for headshots; all of these are a way of performers making more of a living from their talents or skills.

You tube and social media such as Instagram.  It used to be that you would need to send demos to recording studios in which they would receive thousands and thousands every week. If you were lucky enough to be even be heard then you had to be seen by x amount producers and directors for them then to maybe not give you a contract. Sites like you tube remove a whole step and wall between employer and employee. In the past few years Internet phenomenon and views are one of the greatest forms of media therefore, as a performer from the comfort of your own home you can become a success.
This helps in the same way as my previous comment as it provides a faster way of gaining employment but also making it easier for anyone to become a performer. Less experience is required which differs to other professions. This also has its negative effect because with the possibility of anyone posting a video in which potentially you can gain something from, experience and knowledge is less likely to matter in you being recognised. This is especially prominent in the music industry.

Germany's most well known source of employment for musical theatre performers is stage entertainment. They recently set up an online portal in which you provide information (cv) and instead of submitting through a personal email to the casting team you now apply online with one click that sends your application to them. This has its pluses and negatives for us a performers. The main plus is the convince of being able to simply go on your mobile and after a few clicks be in the running for a new job. This is easier if you are in rehearsals for something and don't have time to attach your cv and headshot and create a personal email to the casting team. The main negative effect of this use of Web 2.0 is you have removed the personal connection you make when you yourself have had to contact the employer. Therefore giving you a name not a face or a personality both in which is a vital part of us being able to obtain jobs.
